I had previously decided to retire this blog since I am no longer abroad, but I'm finding it difficult to leave behind. I enjoy any chance I get to to practice writing and and according to the dictionary abroad can merely mean being away from one home, not just being in a foreign country. So I've decided to continue. The subject matter will not be as thrilling as it was when I was in France so I will only post once or twice a week and condense all the interesting things of the week.
I have been home for exactly a week and boy am I enjoying it. The best part about being home after a month and a half of couch surfing and a month sharing a hotel room is having my own bed back. Its comfy and warm, the comforter is a pattern I picked, I have tons of squishy pillows, and I can curl up in it whenever I damn well please. I arrived last Friday evening and the very next day I had to rush off to an audition at the American Conservatory Theatre for their youth singing ensemble. I was so nervous walking into the audition. Up until about three years ago I thought I couldn't sing, until my parents sent me to a voice teacher who showed me that I could sing and prepared me for my first musical audition which was successful. But I am always twice as nervous at singing auditions as I am at acting ones. My fears were lessened when I actually walked in to the room. The auditioners were very nice and helped put me at my ease, but I was still glad to leave when it was over. The next day I was very happy to go back to my home away from home, The Lucky JuJu Pinball Gallery(Pacific Pinball Museum). It was just as I remembered it. Bells dinging nonstop, the jukebox playing some golden oldies, and my wonderful boss Dan and his girlfriend Julie keeping the whole show running. The next night I was back at JuJu again for their Fixit Night, where watched learned and assisted in the fixing of Pinball machines. It was very interesting, though for the most part I watched because unlike seasoned Pinball repairers, I havent memorized what will and will not electricute me.
The rest of this week was spent sleeping, running arrends, and going to dance class. Yup, I started my modern dance class with one of my favorite teachers Katie Kruger. Im enjoying the hell out of it but I am unbelievably sore after last nights class. The only other thing of interest are that I dropped my resume and cover letter off at the San Francisco Union Square branch of LUSH Cosemtics, thats right, I'm applying for my first part time job.
I still miss all my group members from France, France, and my host family. Its hard not to bond with people when you spend a month discovering a new country together. I miss all the fun and annoying things that made them each uniquly different. Leah's crazy but sweet energy, Sadies pesemistic view of the world and love of Nirvana, Asher being...well, Asher, Camilla loving everything and everything and everyone, Willow's hilariously descriptive face and wild fashion sense, Amy being unbelievably sweet and perfect, Gelson being philisophical and brilliant in turns, and finally Sarah being an amazing and quirky group leader. Long story short, I miss them. Then again, it's good to be home, and even though life has slowed to its normal and less interesting pace, Im very glad to be here.
Sincerely,
Drama Queen
